Caring for nature starts with caring for our dogs
At Pure Lapland, responsible tourism is more than a promise – it guides everything we do. We believe that unforgettable experiences can only be created when nature, animals and people are treated with respect.
Our Siberian Huskies are not simply part of our tours; they are valued members of our team. Their health, happiness and natural behaviour are at the heart of our daily work. By taking care of our dogs and the surrounding environment, we can offer authentic, ethical and memorable experiences in the heart of Finnish Lapland.
Our Dogs Come First
Our dogs are our colleagues, athletes and family members.
Animal welfare means creating the best possible living conditions for every dog. Their wellbeing is reflected in their physical health, mental state and enthusiasm for life—and that’s what we work towards every single day.
Nothing tells us more than seeing excited dogs waiting for a run, wagging their tails during cuddle time, or relaxing peacefully after an active day.
Daily Life at Our Kennel
Creating a calm and stress-free environment is the foundation of our kennel.
Every day includes:
- calm handling and positive interactions
- high-quality nutrition tailored for working dogs
- regular exercise and training
- plenty of rest days
- daily socialisation with both dogs and people
- clean, spacious kennels and outdoor play areas
Just like human athletes, every dog has an individual training schedule. Our kennel team carefully monitors each dog’s workload to ensure they receive the right balance of exercise and recovery.
Running Should Always Be Fun
Siberian Huskies are born to run—but only when they want to.
During winter, we only choose dogs that are excited to go. If a dog prefers to stay in the kennel that day, we respect that decision. We believe listening to our dogs is an essential part of responsible animal care.
Outside the winter season, our dogs continue to stay active through free running, play sessions, walks and training. Exercise, enrichment and affection are equally important throughout the year.
Raising Future Sled Dogs
Every sled dog starts as a playful puppy.
Before joining the sled team, puppies spend months developing confidence, social skills and trust through play, exploration and interaction with people.
As they grow, they gradually learn to wear harnesses, walk on lead and eventually join short training runs. Only when they are physically and mentally ready—usually around 1.5 years old—do they begin working alongside the adult dogs.
Giving Rescue Dogs a New Home
Not every great dog starts life at Pure Lapland.
Over the years we’ve welcomed several rescue huskies from other kennels. Some became excellent lead dogs, while others simply enjoy a peaceful life as part of our pack.
Every dog has its own personality, and we believe every dog deserves a safe and loving home.
Responsible Tourism Beyond the Kennel
Responsibility extends far beyond caring for our dogs.
We are committed to:

- supporting local businesses, products and food
- employing local guides and year-round staff
