Pure Lapland
Welcome to our dogs' lives!
At Pure Lapland our focus is on our dogs.
Our dogs are more than just animals, they are our work colleagues. Ensuring our dogs well-being is the most important part when working with them. And this shows in our handling and working style.
But what is animal welfare and well-being? Animal welfare is what we, Pure Lapland, do in order to ensure the best possible environment for our dogs. Well-being on the other hand, is about the mental state, health and happiness of our dogs and therefore, the result of our work on animal welfare.
And there is nothing better than seeing our dogs’ happy smiles when running, or their wagging tails during cuddle times. This really is worth it!
How to create animal welfare.
When working at our kennel, the focus is on creating a calm and relaxed environment for our dogs. This includes all situations and processes. From getting our dogs ready for running, to feeding times, and playtime. This is important as we aim to create a safe and enjoyable environment.
Our dogs are not just our work colleagues but also athletes . Providing high quality meat, dry food and snacks is key for their diet. Besides that, as human athletes, our dogs have their own training manager. Keeping track of kilometers run and ensuring regular days off is done by our kennel management who is keeping track of all dogs.
Ensuring our dogs' well-being.
Ensuring our dogs’ well-being in winter time is rather easy. Our dogs love to run, however we only take the dogs that are jumping at us when picking them up. As dogs are living beings, sometimes they have a bad day and do not want to come out and need some time to themselves. For us it is important to let the dogs make decisions like this and we appreciate their communication.
During summer time, offering play time in fenced enclosures offers a great entertainment and is important for our dogs as socializing time. Just because there is no snow in summer, our dogs still love to run, play and get rid of some energy. Huskies really love running no matter what time and temperature of the year! But besides that cuddles are all-year round one of our top priorities!
Especially for puppies it is important to get socialization time in the play area. Even though they are born to run, it takes a lot of preparation and work until they are ready to become sled dogs. At first, they enjoy lots of play and cuddle time in the play area with our Guides and Guests. Ones they are bigger, walks on a collar and harness are done to get them used to the feeling and to let them explore the area. Around the time when our puppies turn 1 year old, they join their first Guides-only fun runs with the sleds. And only when they are 1,5 years old, they start running with the adult dogs.
Welcome, Rescues!
Sometimes, Husky Farms give up dogs due to several reason. Some are not great sled dogs, others do not fit in their kennel, or they are down sizing or stopping their operations. Now matter what the reason, some of those dogs have found their home here with us.
Over the years some rescues arrived at our kennel and are now part of our team. Some are just enjoying live with us, others decided to become great lead dogs for us, but no matter their character, they all are adding cuteness and fluffiness to our pack.
Maybe you can even spot some of them at our farm during your next visit? Or you have had one of them in your dog team already?
